Build a Custom Home in Spring Branch, Houston

Spring Branch is a large suburb of Houston – so large, in fact, it’s separated into four neighborhoods, known as super neighborhoods. While each has its own features, neighborhood associations, and civic organizations, the suburb as a whole is a desirable area to build a home in Houston. If you’re looking for somewhere to live in the largest city in Texas, Spring Branch may be the place for you. Read on to learn why the area often ranks as one of the best areas to live in Houston and find out how to build a custom home there.

Why Build a Custom Home in Spring Branch?

Once named one of Houstonia Magazine’s hottest neighborhoods in Houston, Spring Branch has a number of features that make it a desirable place to live, especially for young professionals and families.

Nods to History

Spring Branch may be a district in Houston, but its history predates the settling of Houston. In the 1800s, Spring Branch was settled by German farmers, who reportedly named the town after a nearby spring-fed stream. The early settlers also built St. Peter’s United Church, the second oldest church in Houston. While much has changed in the area, you’ll still see remnants of the past, mixed in with the new. The mid-century ranches that were popular in the 50s and 60s are interspersed with new builds and, in a nod to the first settlers, many of the streets and parks are named after many early families.

A Good Commute

The suburb is surrounded by main roads, including Beltway 8, Interstate 10, the 610 Loop, and Hempstead Road. This makes it pretty easy to get downtown and to other suburbs, including Houston Heights, Spring Valley, and West University. It also provides an easy commute to major job hubs like the Energy Corridor, Memorial City Mall, and several large medical centers in the city. You’ll also find access to one of Houston’s Hike and Bike Trails, the new Spring Branch Trail. The 2.4-mile trail connects to other trails leading downtown and to other suburbs north of the Loop, offering an eco-friendly commute option.

Plenty of Outdoor Recreation

The Spring Branch Trail and other nearby Hike and Bike Trails aren’t just for commuters, they’re also for anyone who enjoys outdoor recreation and sightseeing. Along with miles of walking and biking trails, Spring Branch residents have access to several parks equipped with playgrounds, picnic tables, shaded areas, a swimming pool or disc golf area. There are also several small bayous that run through the area.

A Diverse Food Scene

In the 1960s, Spring Branch saw an influx of immigrants, which has influenced the food scene of the area. You’ll find a varied sprinkling of restaurants featuring Thai, Mexican, Korean, Greek, Polish, and many other ethnic cuisines. Along with locally-owned restaurants and food trucks, you’ll also come across Asian supermarkets and Polish food stores, where you can pick up supplies to diversify your home cooking as well.
